Project Overview
When Samsung partnered with Warner Bros. on The Matrix Reloaded, it released the SPH-N270, a phone based on the one used in the film. We designed the packaging and retail presence for the launch: a commemorative collector’s tin, the phone’s inner case, and life-size standees for store floors.
The tin is the signature piece. Printed on a metallic surface, the film’s green “digital rain” code was set in two to three offset layers that shift as the light and viewing angle change, so the code appears to move in three dimensions, much like it does on screen. Inside, a custom case holds the phone and its accessories. In stores, standees seven feet tall brought the film’s look to retail. Years later, the tins still turn up on collector and movie memorabilia sites.
